Spring cleaning – my top tips for decluttering your wardrobe

I’ve always been a big fan of decluttering but living in a small house it’s taught me to be brutal about what I keep and what I chuck. Here are the rules I live by when it comes to clearing out my wardrobe:

  1. Have you worn it in the last 6 months/year depending on the season? If you haven’t then why are you keeping hold of it?
  2. Does it make you feel GOOD when you wear it? If it doesn’t then why keep it? You want a wardrobe that makes you feel good no matter what you grab on that busy Wednesday when you’re running half an hour late.
  3. Does it FIT? Why have you got that pair of size too big jeans that make you feel like a frump? Or equally, why have you got those size six skinny jeans that you’ll only be able to fit into if you starve yourself for a year. It goes back to my point of “do they make you feel good?” The answer. NO! Chuck them!
  4. Do they make you feel like “you”? We’ve all been guilty of it; seeing that gorgeous girl you completely idolise wearing something like it, so you buy it. But you’re never ever going to wear it & if you do you feel like you’re trying to hard or stick out like a sore thumb… blah blah blah, you look your best when you’re yourself. Chuck it! (Or sell it)

It’s so easy to stockpile clothes that you might wear one day or you might fit into one day but if you’re anything like me you end up wearing the same outfits over and over again. You don’t need to have a big selection of clothes, just clothes you feel happy and comfortable in. Every season, I like to buy a couple of pieces I know I’ll wear day in & day out and feel great in. That’s all you need!
